Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) is obtained from cow’s milk that has been skimmed, pasteurized and concentrated by vacuum evaporation. This concentrated milk is then spray dried in hot air within a heated chamber. The resultant powder contains casein and whey protein which is high in soluble vitamin and mineral content.
The advantages of using Skimmed Milk Powder are:

  • Longer and steady preservation,
  • Smaller storage space,
  • Nutritional value similar to the drinking milk

Intended/Suggested Uses:

  • Has a wide range of applications including reconstitution of milk, production of sweetened condensed milk, fermented milk products, Yoghurt, Ice cream mixes among many others.
  • May be used as an ingredient in bakery and confectionery products.
  • Not for use in infant formula for infants below 12 months of age
